6.2/10

The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the train station and town center, offering brilliant service and a nice decor. The rooms were not very clean and were situated in a sister hotel owned by the same company next door, albeit accessible through a cupboard-sized door. The atmosphere was great, but some rude individuals downgraded it.

Rooms

The rooms were located in a sister hotel next door, accessible through a small door, and were not very clean.
Service
9.0
The staff were friendly and went out of their way to provide excellent service.
Location
7.0
The location was good and fairly efficient, although some rude individuals downgraded the atmosphere.
Dining
5.0
The restaurant was not worth the money, and some advertised options were not available.
Facilities
6.0
The facilities were adequate and clean, resembling those in a campervan/caravan.

7.2/10

My stay at the hotel was absolutely worth it for the price of £50. The room was brilliant and cleaned well, except for the bed, which was a bit disappointing. Unfortunately, paying £60 for a night with no bath, tiny shower, and minimal soap was quite disgraceful.

Rooms
8.0
My room was brilliant for £50, absolutely getting my money's worth and cleaned well, except for the bed.
Service
6.0
The service was a bit mixed. While the staff offered an upgrade for £15 with breakfast, they weren't that friendly or helpful. The comfortable bed was a plus, but the TV had digital signal issues.
Location
7.0
The location was excellent, with pubs, restaurants, and takeaways just a short walk away in Colchester town centre. However, the off-road car park next to an Indian restaurant was a bit dodgy.
Dining
7.0
The dining experience was great value with a buffet spread like any other hotel. However, it was a bit inconvenient that breakfast had to be taken in the adjacent Globe hotel.
Facilities
8.0
The hotel had laundry and newspaper services available, which were quite convenient for guests.

5.0/10

The hotel seemed like it was taken out of a house and placed into the kitchen area, which was a bit disappointing for £60 a night. The lack of a bath, tiny shower, and minimal soap were not ideal. However, I did run into some trouble with the management when I tried to bring my meal up to the room. It felt like a trip straight back to the 80s.

Rooms
5.0
The room felt like it was taken from a house, and the installation in the kitchen area was not the best. The lack of a bath and the tiny shower with a sliver of soap made the experience less enjoyable. It was indeed reminiscent of the 80s.
Service
5.0
The check-in process was welcoming, and the pricing seemed fair based on the facilities. Unfortunately, there were some issues with rudeness from the staff, who never even greeted me. The comments left by other hotel users were far from accurate, as my experience with the management was less than pleasant.
Location
6.0
The location was convenient, albeit up a steepish hill. There were some nice pubs along the way, which was a good break during the journey. Despite the presence of white van laborers who were sometimes rude, the area had some good spots for relaxation and decent Wi-Fi.
Dining
5.0
The European dishes were supposed to be enjoyed in the Globe hotel, but the experience felt more like a simple bed and breakfast setup rather than a proper dining experience. The promise of a full English breakfast was not entirely met.
Facilities
5.0
The facilities were starting to look very run down, with tight shower and toilet cubicles that were hard to navigate. There were various maintenance issues like a disabled lift, hanging fire door closers, and inadequate lighting levels. The neighboring reception at the Star Anglia looked far better than the hotel itself.
